It was back home to New England for the whole family this summer. Craig and I spent six weeks teaching archaeology in Connecticut and Maya got her first taste of daycare. Fun all around.
Maya finally grew out of the old Baby Bjorn. Time to upgrade to a hiking backpack...and try it out on a walk downtown with Colleen and Ivan!
Living in a land where it is so often overcast and cool makes a person really appreciate true summer days. Makeshift baby pool at Granny Annie's house:

One of the Mohegan elders treated us all to a buffet breakfast on the last day of our first session. Maya and I am in the way back by the pillar. I am still craving those delicious mini doughnuts! p.s. I snatched this picture off one of the fieldschool students, so credit goes out to Laura for this one. |

Out of the blue one night, Maya learned how to walk! She walked around and around the kitchen, clapping for herself. Big kid stuff. |

We spent the Independence Day holiday on the beach in Cape Cod. It was the perfect time for some much-needed R & R.
 |
It was Maya's true first time at the beach. We weren't sure how she would like the waves and the water, but she loved it. We would try to drag her out and she would do a sideways half-walk, half-crawl right straight back into the waves...just like a little beach crab! |

Finally out of the water and taking a break to eat some squeezy applesauce. |
 |
The beach is just a little patch of sand for the neighborhood sandwiched between two private beaches, but it is really nice and all the folks on the beach are really good friends. |

We had a combined birthday party for all the summer birthdays at Dad's house. Thanks to Dad and Abby for some of this pics.

Well, that pretty much sums up all of the fun things we did in June and July (that I photographed). Stay tuned for an August post!
