Soar and Roar

Aylestone Meadows

The early May bank holiday had us looking for a new adventure. We decided to spend the afternoon walking at Aylestone Meadows along the Soar River trail. It was lovely!

Bridge over the river with a canal boat in the distance.

Ancient borse cart bridge across the marshland. Still going strong!

Birthday Zoo Trip

Maya's party dress could hardly be contained by this jacket.

Found one.

Meerkat lookout.

River otters. For a long time the enclosure looked empty and then all of  sudden they came out of nowhere all together in a big posse. They ran around the pond and then, as quick as they came, they were gone.

Butterfly from the butterfly barn.

Petting zoo.
Maya's favorite animals at the zoo this year were the penguins. She loved watching them swim and splash all around, and even gave them a supportive cheer, "one, two, three, GO!"

Maya and me as penguins.
We caught these tortoises in a private moment. Maya said, "they're sleeping."   Our fellow zoo-goers were scandalized.

I wanted to take a memorial "birthday girls" shot in front of the entrance to the zoo. Maya  agreed to say, "cheese" as long as her  eyes were covered. Well, when in Rome....
